Crabb Honored with Tardy Award

Chuck CrabbChuck Crabb has been named the 2006 recipient of the Jerry F. Tardy 'Pride of Indiana' award, given by the Indiana University Foundation. The award recognizes his deep commitment to IU and many years of work benefiting the institution. An IU alumnus, Crabb is assistant athletics director at IU, and is perhaps best known as the voice of IU Athletics.

Crabb was honored also for creating a vibrant and exciting environment for competition and athletic excellence. He was co-advisor for the Student Athletic board for eleven years, and also provides support for the Indiana University cheerleading and spirit squads. In addition, the Indiana University 'Crabb Band,' which supports the women's basketball team, the women's volleyball team, and men's and women's soccer teams, is named for him.

For his association with the Department of Bands as the Athletics liaison, he has been named an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi music honoraries.

Crabb has been a long-time friend to the Indiana University Foundation and to its Student Foundation. He has served as the press box announcer for the Little 500 bicycle races since 1981, and in 2002 was one of the first recipients of the Student Foundation's Volunteer Recognition Award.

The Tardy Award is named after the president and CEO of the IU Alumni Association who died in 2001. An IU graduate, Tardy is credited with helping to negotiate the contract for the Oscar-winning movie, Breaking Away, and for the IU license plate program that provides up to 13 scholarships each year for children of Alumni Association members. Tardy was also a member of the board of directors of the IU Foundation and of the IU Varsity Club.
