IU Endowment Ranks in Top 15 Nationally

Release Date: 07/26/2007

Once again, Indiana University ranks among America's Top 15 public universities in market value of its endowment, according to a recent survey.

This is the 16th consecutive year that IU has appeared on the list of Top 15 public university endowments.  The survey was conducted by the National Association of College and Business Officers (NACUBO), in conjunction with TIAA-CREF, a national financial services organization.

This year, IU ranked 13th among all public colleges and universities in the nation, and seventh among Big Ten publics; 765 colleges and universities participated in the survey.

"Each year our endowment continues to perform," said Curt Simic, president of the IU Foundation.  "We credit the guidance of our Board of Directors' Investment Committee for the endowment's continued success."

Over the past 10 years, our returns have compounded at 10.5 percent.  This compares favorably to the 10 year average among higher education endowments, which is 8.8 percent," Simic said.

"The endowment uses the earnings on its returns to provide scholarships and fellowships for students, faculty support, equipment, buildings, and funding for many projects that help make IU the great university that it is," said Simic.  "The generosity of our donors has been vital to the growth of the endowment, and we thank them for their support of IU."
